X-Blocks Blog Hop 2018

Hi there, I'm so X-cited to be a part of this X-Blocks Blog Hop hosted by Amy at Sew Incredibly Crazy.  All of the bloggers have had some amazing projects all week.  I hope you have been checking all of them out.

We played off of one of our current patterns "Open Space" and changed it up just a little bit.

Open Space uses the BasiX template.  We've added some True Grips to our templates to make cutting much easier.  True Grips are a non-slip adhesive ring that you apply to your template.  We put them on both sides of the template as some of our patterns use the template right side up and some use it upside down.

We constructed our block and are ready to cut using the BasiX template.  But before we cut, we like to give our blocks a spray of Best Press before we cut.  We are working with bias edges and starching it with some Best Press gives it a little stability.

Notice the "X-tras" or cut off triangle pieces.  Don't throw those away.  They are not waste.  You can use them in the border, as a second project, or sew them together and put in a pieced backing.

We added a few more blocks to make it wider and longer and we substituted the square in a square block with this fun panel of quilting meme's from the fabric line "A Stitch In Time" by Northcott Fabrics.

We also used the quilt block panel from A Stitch In Time for the outer border.  Isn't it fun!

Here is the finished quilt top.  It is available on our website as a kit if you'd like to make one for yourself.  You can order it here.  It's going to look amazing in my new studio.

I thought I would have it quilted and bound for you but the custom quilt I currently have in the frame is "kicking my behind" and I just couldn't get it finished in time to get this one quilted.

We also have a giveaway. Visit each blogger on their day and leave a comment for a chance to win this very generous prize worth over $175. **If you are international and win, you will be responsible for the shipping**

  10. First, congrats on your new endeavor. You are a brave lady to do this. I don't have the umpf to be a business owner. You have wonderful support from many, many fellow quilters. Second, I have been inspired by the wonderful posts about X-blocks. Third, your post is very inspirational, too. Fourth, when I first saw a post about X-blocks, it sounded familiar. When I saw the first post that showed the front of the book, I realized that I had purchased a ruler and the book at a quilt show in Oklahoma City a few years ago. I brought all the goodies home and put them in my stash room for save quilting. I do not remember how many a few years is. After my husband died about five years ago, I lost all my desire to quilt and am hoping to start quilting again. In addition to his death, I have fibromyalgia where some days I can't even get out of bed, so it's not easy to quilt on days like that. I am now better than I have been in years and hoping to get my mojo into action. Thanks for the wonderful hop. You are generous to give someone this wonderful prize. Hopefully it will inspire someone to quilt and it won't go into someone's stash and just sit. If nothing else, hopefully someone will share it with other quilters. I can only imagine what I could really do with the rulers and my stash. Just seeing all the creations has been a great journey for me. Good luck with your awesome endeavor. God speed!
