All Aboard

Have you ridden the train for a mode of transportation?  I never had until this last weekend.  When I went home for Thanksgiving, I stayed an extra week.  I had to get home somehow.  Although I really wasn't looking forward to going back to the temps of the frozen tundra!

I could have flown home but it's such a hassle.  The airport in Kansas City is almost 2 hours from mom and dad's house and then the airport in Chicago is just over an hour from our house but the traffic is horrific!  Someone suggested I take the train.  So I did.

I'm really glad I did.  It was a good ride, and inexpensive too.  It was easy to get on.  Mom and Dad still had to drive me to the train station but at least I didn't have to be there 2 hours ahead of time and the train station is closer than driving to the north side of Kansas City to the airport.

The seats were comfy, plenty of leg room, even for a tall, long legged person, reclined back for napping, a foot rest in front and lap tray.  There was also an observatory car and a dining car.  I didn't go to either of them but it was good to know they were there.

I got off in Mendota IL, just a spot in the road, and only 45 minutes from our house.  I was glad I didn't have to go all the way into Chicago to the Amtrak station.  I'll do it again and it's something mom and dad can do.  I'm looking forward to them coming to visit me.  I sure hope they wait until it's a little warmer though.

  1. I was about nine years old when I rode a train from Las Vegas to California. It was just two of my sisters and me...what an adventure! Sitting in an airport for that extra two hours is no fun, so that train ride must have been great.

  2. I do love riding the train and it is much more comfortable than being crammed so tightly into airline seats. And...you get to actually see the countryside.

  3. I take the Amtrak a couple times a year from North Dakota to Seattle,WA. That is where my daughter, son in law and grandkids live. I love riding the train. I take hand work with me, my Kindle and I am good to go. Beautiful scenery also.
