It is hard to believe we have lived in Illinois for almost 8 months and we have yet to go to Chicago to the Magnificent Mile or any other attraction they offer. Well after Saturday, we can check that off of our bucket list.
We have been told by several locals that "it's so easy to take the train in to Chicago". You don't have to drive and it is very inexpensive. Just drive to Elburn and catch the Metra to Chicago. Well, how hard could that be? We drove to Elburn, it's just about 15-20 minutes away, finally found the train depot. I'm not sure what we were expecting but we didn't expect what we got. There wasn't a single soul around (that worked there anyway) and only 2 other young adults, who both seemed very enthraulled with whatever was on their phone. Finally the King asked one of them what time the next train was. He reported it would be another hour and 15 minutes. UGH!! We thought we could ask questions about what station we needed to get off at once in Chicago but there was no one to ask. So we gave up and got in the car and drove to the Mag Mile. Here's a recap of our day....
Beautiful landscaping! ...
Interesting street corner performers, working for a dollar to two...
Homeless people on lots of corners...
More beautiful landscaping...
Waited in a line a mile long to eat at Gino's Pizza...
YES! It was worth the wait....
Of course a selfie was in order...
More neat landscaping and look who photo bombed my pumpkins...
The King and I...
Some really cool art at the Nike store...
Of course a trip inside the Ralph Lauren store was in order. And of course, no purchases were made...
Attempted to get popcorn at Garrett's but look at that line too...
Opted to move on and try Garrett's Popcorn next time...
Street corner entertainers calling it a day, or maybe finding a different corner...
William at Under Armour
It was a very fun and interesting day. I'm so glad we went but next time we're going to attempt the train.... after we ask more questions and do some research.
So glad you enjoyed yourselves. Never been to Ill. The flowers were a nice touch, I've seen small towns do that but never large cities.
ReplyDeleteI always love the amazing flowers along Michigan Ave. Chicago is one of my favorite cities to visit. Glad you enjoyed it and hope you get there more often now.
