It's really quite ironic that I'd even consider making a quilt about dogs. You see, I'm not really a "dog person" or a "cat person" , or an animal lover in general. Yeah I know some of you are gasping at this point. I don't "hate" them and I certainly don't want any harm to come to any of them, I just don't want them in my life. I love it that you do, it's just not for me. And I totally get it that you pet lovers love your pets like they are your children. Some of you crack me up with your stories and photos. But again, still not me. So what possessed me to even consider this quilt? Well I have no Dog Gone idea???!!!! But I'm so glad that I did. Isn't it the Dog Gone Cutest Quilt!!!!
I made the bigger version of the blocks. I had just finished some intricate paper piecing and needed a break from little pieces. So big it is. Here are my blocks.
Then I wanted to do something different with the sashing. Not your typical 2 1/2" strips and cornerstones. I could just imagine puppy paw prints walking all over this quilt so this is what I came up with.
I cut puppy paw prints, cut them from the fabrics I was using and appliqued them to the black background fabric.
I alternated the direction of the puppy paw prints in each row.
And I found the cutest paw print fabric for the border, which was my inspiration for the paw prints in the sashing rows.
I used some of the leftovers and pieced the backing.
And quilted these paw prints from Designs by Deb on it in black thread.
Here is the lineup for today on the Dog Gone Cute Blog Hop or you can see the complete schedule here.
