A SUPER TEEN

Our local county fair in my hometown of Nevada MO is in full swing.  I love the fair and all it stands for.  It's an experience of a lifetime that instills so many values into the lives of our youth.  I have so many memories at the fair from my childhood, my children have so many memories of the fair, and now my grandchildren and great nieces and nephews will be making their own memories too.

Monday and Tuesday evening they held the "Super Teen" Contest.  It consisted of 10 teams, 4 members each, (2 boys and 2 girls).  They had to do a series of competitive events, accumulating points.  This event is the greased pig event.  They have to catch the greased pig and put it in the tub in the middle of the arena.

McKayla (William's friend and prom date) has the pig under her arm and is headed to the tub.

This event is called Calf Dressing.  They have to catch the calf and "dress" it with a pair of men's boxer shorts.

McKayla and Kaleigh are dressing while  the boys "steer wrestled" the calf.

Can you see the boxers on the calves?

The last event was the obstacle course.  One team member starts, .....

grabs a water balloon, and crawls through the tunnel....

out the other end, ...

puts the water balloon into a pail of water, hands it off to the team mate, goes through the gate...
hands the water balloon to the girl in the wheelbarrow, loads a bale of hay onto the girl....

the two boys push the girl through the cones, to the other end....

where the girl in the wagon has to get out, and start her stack of bale of hay, still holding the water balloon....

at which time all the team members stack hay...

and move on to the boards with ropes (which I, for the life of me can't remember what it's called) and have to walk in unison to the other end...

to the tractor tire, ...

that they roll to the other end, all 4 members must be touching the tire, and don't forget about that water balloon...

and on to the big bale of hay...

that is rolled to the other end of the arena, and all 4 team members must cross over the hay to the finish line,... one member across...

2 members across...

3 members across, yep and the water balloon too...

And they did it!  By the way, if at any point they bust the water balloon, they must run back to the beginning and get another one!  The girls learned very quickly that the safest place for that water balloon was in their bra!  However I did wonder what was holding that balloon in some times!   haha!!

The team I was rooting for, McKayla, and teammates, ended up placing 3rd out of 10 teams.  Pretty good and very tough competition.  These kids take this Super Teen competition very serious!
