MYSTERY SEASONAL SAMPLER #6 - 2014

Can you believe this month is halfway through with the blocks for the Mystery Seasonal Sampler?!  My how time does fly!  This month's block is  4 basket blocks.


CUTTING DIRECTIONS
Background Fabric
16 - 3" squares
4 - 2 7/8" squares cut in half once on the diagonal
8 - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles
4 - 2 1/2" squares

Fabric Color #1
4 - 3" squares
2 - 4 7/8" squares cut in half once on the diagonal

Fabric Color #2
12 - 3" squares

ASSEMBLY

1.  On the back of each 3" background square, draw a diagonal line.  Place a background square with 12 color #2 squares and 4 color #1 squares.  Sew 1/4" on each side of the diagonal line.  Cut apart on sold line.  Press seam to dark (or press seam open).  Trim to 2 1/2".  You will have 24 background/color #2 half square triangles and 8 background/color #1 half square triangles






2.  Place a 2 7/8" triangle on each side of background/color #2 half square triangle as pictured below. Sew together to make this triangle unit.  Press seams to background triangle.  Make a total of 4 units.


3.  Place a 4 7/8" color #1 triangle with the triangle unit made in Step 2 and sew together.  Press to large triangle.  Make a total of 4 units.


4.  Sew 3 background/color #2 half square triangles together end to end as shown.  Watch placement of color.  Press to color #2 side.  Make a total of 4 units.

 5.  Sew 2 background/color #2 half square triangles together end to end as shown.  Watch placement of color.  Make 4 of these units.
 6.  Sew the 2 half square triangle unit made in step 5 to the side the square unit made in step 3 as shown below.  Make a total of 4 of these units.

7.  Sew a 3 half square triangle unit made in step 4 to the unit made in step 6 as shown.  Make a total of 4 of these units.

 8.  Sew a background/color #1 half square triangle to the end of a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" background rectangle as shown.  Watch placement of color.  Make a total of 4 of these units.

9.  Sew the unit made in step 8 to the unit made in step 7 as shown.  

 10.  Sew a 2 1/2" background square to a background/color #1 half square triangle.   Then sew a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" background rectangle to the other side of the background/color #1 half square triangle as shown.  Make a total of 4 units.
 11.  Sew the unit made in step 10 to the unit made in step 9 as shown.  Make a total of 4 basket blocks.  The block should measure 8 1/2" unfinished.
 12.  Sew the 4 baskets blocks together as shown to make the block 16 1/2" unfinished.


Here is the second block in the other color way.  I'm pleased with both blocks although the block below is bright and cheery like the one above.  And of course my favorite is bright and cherry.
