Okay, so on the Month #2. It's February so it has to have hearts... right? Why of course it does and hearts it has; three of them.
The Cutting Directions first:
Fabric #1, #2, #3 - (Hearts)
Cut 1 - 4" x 4" square from each fabric
Cut 2 - 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares from each fabric
Fabric #4 - (Background)
Cut 3 - 4" x 4" squares
Cut 12 - 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" squares
Cut 1 - 3 1/2" x 22" strip
Fabric #5 Cut 1 - 3 1/2" x 22" strip
Assembly:
For the 3 heart blocks. They finish 6" (6 1/2" unfinished)
Draw a diagonal line across the back of each of the 4" background squares. Pair them with a 4" heart fabric #1, #2, & #3 square. Sew on each side of the diagonal line 1/4" from the diagonal line.
Cut on the diagonal line and press to the darker fabric.
They should look like this.
You will do this for each of the 3 prints you cut out from the fabrics for the hearts. When sewn together, the two matching half square triangles will form the bottom of the heart. Repeat for the other 2 sets.
Now draw a diagonal line across the 12 - 1 1/2" squares. Place a 1 1/2" square on the upper right and upper left corner of a 3 1/2" square of fabric #1, 2, & 3. This time sew on the diagonal line.
A little trick I do when I sew stitch and flip method is to sew just a thread's width from the diagonal line. This allows for the thickness of the thread and fabric once it's pressed.
Cut off the excess on each 1/4" from the stitched line.
Now sew the 4 patches together to form the complete heart.
You're ready to move on to the 4 patch units that connect to the heart.
Sew the background 3 1/2" strip to the Fabric #5 - 3 1/2" strip, right sides together down the length of the strip. Press to the dark fabric. Sub cut the strip set into six 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles.
Sew two 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles together to make one 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" Four Patch unit. Make a total of 3 of these.
Pretty easy huh? Both blocks are quick and easy this month.
Remember I'm making 2 of these Mystery Seasonal Samplers. The first one I test the pattern for cutting and directions and the 2nd one to make sure I did it right the first time (not to say that I might not do it wrong 2 times in a row). Haha!
Here is one of my sets of heart blocks. I did jump ahead and sew them together a little. You can too if you want but don't go any further than this. I don't want you to have to rip it out later.
Leave me a comment and tell me how you're doing. Did you finish your January blocks yet? It's not too late to start either one. I promise I'll have the linky button on here in a few days so you can post pictures of your blocks. I'll let you know when I William the Webmaster gets it figured out.
Be sure to stick around for the next blog hop too. It's sure to be a sweetheart of a blog hop. I'll share my posting date with cupid himself (or is that herself) on February 14th.
