Do you know what the fabric food chain is? I didn't before, but now I do. In Bonnie's world it is what is used to create blocks that create quilts. For example 4 - 1 1/2" squares are used to create a four-patch block and then 2 of those paired with 2 plain 2 1/2" squares to create another block or 9 - 1 1/2" squares are used to create a nine-patch block that are used to create a quilt. Or the squares to create half square triangles. Or there's bricks and squares to create flying geese. The possibilities are endless. You too can create your own fabric food chain. Bonnie tells you how to get started here.
I loved the part of her lecture where she talked about what to do with her stash when she dies. She said it is her wish to give everyone who attends the funeral a fat quarter. I love it! Bet she'll have record attendance when this word spreads! LOL.
She gave us a free pass to add to our stash. After all, do you like to play with the same toy over and over again? I don't! I like new ones so it's okay to add to your stash to keep it interesting. Just the words I've been waiting for. No more guilt trips. Bonnie said it was okay! She also gave me a free pass to go out and purchase 7-8 yards of new fabric I really, really like when I piece my backs from my current stash. I've been doing this a lot lately (piecing the backs that is) so yippie, skippy for me. I have a free pass to buy more fabric. I can't wait to tell Gregg!!!
And lastly, (well probably not last but it's the last thing I remember before my phone died and I quit taking notes and pictures to remind me) Bonnie talked about leaders and enders. Now I've never used the so called "thread bunny" that she talks about but so many of my quilting friends do. And now that I know you can actually piece 2 quilts at once, I'm going to start. Imagine that! Double your money ( or maybe it's double trouble :)
Here are a few pictures of quilts she has made entirely from quilts. I'm so envious. Wonder if I'll be able to tackle my fear of scrappy quilts now?!
