FFA BLOCKS

I'm making progress on the FFA blocks for the retirement quilt.  I've had a few distractions but it's coming together.

First there was chaperoning an FFA Nursery Landscape Contest Team to Huntsville TX last Thursday and Friday.  The Team qualified to go to State competition and the team took 11th place out of 50 teams.  William placed 23rd out of 200 kids.  I left Gregg home alone after his surgery he had on Monday.  He was doing fine when I left but when I returned, infection had set in.  Of course it was Friday evening, doctor is in Dallas but we had contact with the nurse practitioner.  Saturday evening we got an antibiotic but by Monday morning it was no better so a trip to Dallas soon came on the agenda.  Returned home Monday evening, incision was lanced, drained (and still draining), packed with gauze, antibiotic changed and home health nurse was scheduled for daily visits to change dressing.  Oh yeah, and there was Prom activities on Saturday/Saturday evening.   I have no idea what happened to Sunday.  I'm sure I did something, just don't really remember what!  Obviously it wasn't working on these blocks!

So today, I finally worked on the FFA blocks.  Here is what I have:

"
The Treasurer."... "Stationed at the emblem of Washington."... "I keep a record of receipts and disbursements just as Washington kept his farm accounts-carefully and accurately. I encourage thrift among the members and strive to build up our financial standing through savings and investments. George Washington was better able to serve his country because he was financially independent."
"Mr./Mdm. Vice President, why do you keep a plow at your station?"...."The plow is the symbol of labor and tillage of the soil. Without labor, neither knowledge nor wisdom can accomplish much. My duties require me to assist at all times in directing the work of our organization. I preside over meeting in the absence of our president, whose place is beneath the rising sun."

"The Reporter."... "The reporter is stationed by the flag."..."Why by the flag."..."As the flag covers the United States of America, so I strive to inform the people in order that every man, woman and child may know that the FFA is a national organization that reaches from the state of Alaska to Puerto Rico and from the state of Maine to Hawaii."

"The Advisor."...."Here by the owl."... "Why stationed by the owl?"..."The owl is a time-honored emblem of knowledge and wisdom. Being older than the rest of you, I am asked to advise you from time to time, as the need arises. I hope that my advice will always be based on true knowledge and ripened with wisdom.

Oops, the rising sun is upside down but you get the idea...   "Why is the president so stationed?"...
"The rising sun is the token of a new era in agriculture. If we will follow the leadership of our president, we shall be led out of the darkness of selfishness and into the glorious sunlight of brotherhood and cooperation. Mr./Mdm. President, all officers are at the stations."

  1. The quilt is going to be a beauty - thanks for the memories of the opening ceremonies. I heard that at lots of local meetings and state and national conventions
