I'm still a real zero user for 4 weeks in a row.  It's not that I haven't been doing anything;  I really have.  But it was a kit so I don't count it.  On second thought, maybe I should, it's fabric out of my stash.  What do you think?

How is your stash busting coming along?  Are you doing better than I am?  I sure hope so!

I don't think I'm ever going to finish this graduation quilt.  It seems like I have been working on this forever.  I'm making progress, just not very fast progress.  It's a good thing I started this early; which is completely out of character for me!  I'm a last minute, fly by the seat of your pants kinda girl!  Just ask mom.  She always told me if I didn't have a deadline I wouldn't get anything done and I have to admit she's pretty close to right.  Every once in a while I throw a curve ball but it's not often.  I wouldn't want to send the whole world into shock all the time.

So here's to progress on the graduation quilt.  I'm working on the sawtooth borders next.  I sure hope she likes it.  William burst my bubble with it.  He told me teenage girls don't like pale pastel colors.  They like bright bold colors.  He did say it was a pretty quilt if you were an old lady.  I personally thought it looked young and whimsical and would be perfect for a teenager for graduation.  I'm going to finish it and make my decision later.  If I have time I might make another one out of bright colors (and a more modern pattern) or I just might give this one to her anyway.  I'm sure she will like it, she may just rather have a brighter colored one better.  What do you think?  If you have a teenage daughter or granddaughter, ask them their opinion.

Wow, it's been almost a week since I last blogged!  I apologize to my readers.  I have been lazy lately.  Well lazy at blogging, not other things.  Saturday I helped Gregg in the yard rake up 32, yep I said 32, large black trash bags of leaves.  Both of us were exhausted and could hardly move the next day.  I knew when I was doing it I was going to pay for my non existent exercise lifestyle and boy did I!  But my yard looked fabulous for approximately 12-18 hours.  The wind blew, and blew, and blew on Sunday and Monday and there are live oak leaves everywhere again!

Sunday I didn't move any more than I had to, but I did start another quilt in the quilting machine and made some progress on the graduation quilt.  William burst my bubble with the graduation quilt and told me it looked really nice if you were an old lady!  And I quote "mom, teenage girls don't like pastel colors, they like bright, bold colors."  Great!   Now do I give it to her anyway or do I start again with something bright and bold?  Maybe time will answer that question.  Either way, I'm finishing the graduation quilt.  I'm this close and I refuse to have another UFO!

Monday was a quilting on the longarm day.  In fact I worked longer than normal because I didn't quilt much this weekend.

And that brings me to today.  It started out with a nice brisk walk with 28 degree temps at the golf course at 8:30 a.m. to watch William play a round of golf in Gatesville.  Actually it started much earlier than that but tee time was 8:30 a.m.  Normally we rent a cart to follow him but as my luck would go, this course had NO golf carts to rent.  Great!  There's a reason I'm fat and sassy!  It goes back to that non existent exercise lifestyle I lead.  Surprisingly it warmed up nicely in no time at all and there was no wind so the cold wasn't so bad.  My poor old tired aching dogs sure did bark at me all day though.

So somehow, not sure exactly how, but somehow that leads my to my FAUX QUILTING post.  I found this on facebook and thought it looked really cool.  I haven't actually tried it but I'm thinking I will...  in my spare time of course.  Maybe a different pattern though. Check it out and see what you think about it.

WIP WEDNESDAY #11 (On Thursday)

Yesterday was a bit of a stressful day, that I shall remain silent about at this time.  And since I didn't get to bed until after midnight, blog posting didn't happen yesterday.  I had good intentions; I even took the pictures of my work in progress.  My plans got changed for me and I wasn't happy about it either.

Anyway, I've been working way too much at the "part-time" job this past week, quilting like a crazy woman when I get home to stay on top of my customer's quilts, and somehow managed to set the blocks together for the graduation quilt Boardwalk I've been working on.  I even have the setting triangles cut but I have noticed the there is one slight problem.  The corner triangles are too small.  I cut them the size instructed so there must be a glitch in the pattern and rats, I don't think I have enough to cut new ones unless I piece them.  Urgh!  Since this was a kit, (that I've had for quite sometime) I wonder what the chances are that the quilt shop will still have this fabric?

What are you working on?  Leave me a comment and let me know.

One of my customers, who shall remain anonymous as this time, made this quilt for a graduation gift.  I don't think she or her daughter read my blog but just in case I won't mention any names.  I just love it.  It's a little different than most of the t-shirt quilts I get in to quilt.

Oops, the picture of the "Texan" is upside down - but only in the pictures. He's right side up on the quilt.  I quilted him in a dark purple thread and then changed colors to an orchid thread and quilted a small stipple in the background.  The frame around the Texan and the Boot is quilted with the orchid thread.

And the same for this boot about being upside down.  I quilted the opposite for these blocks.  I quilted the boot in orchid and the small stipple in the dark purple.

I also used dark purple to quilt a meander on the t-shirts and this pattern in the setting triangles.

I don't know about you but I'm glad this week is over.  It was Spring Break here and William has been home all week.  I think this is the first time we have stayed home all spring break and not gone anywhere.  It seemed odd, almost like a waste of a good week.  And to top it off, I didn't get much quilting or sewing done either.  I worked at my part-time job too many hours this week!  Now that's not a good week at all!  And I added to my stash and I didn't even set foot in a quilt shop.  It was my 3rd Saturday run to Buda to B&B Quilting to drop off and pick up quilts.  I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the number of quilts I have to quilt (I'm not complaining though) so I sent Gregg to deliver and pick up.  I needed binding for 2 quilts so I sent the quilts with him and called the quilt shop and had them pick out binding to match.  You didn't think I was going to trust Gregg to pick it out did you?  He's a good driver and can handle the delivery but when it comes to quilting, that's a whole different story.

Did you quilt today?  It was Worldwide Quilting Day.  I celebrated in style.  I finished a custom quilt that had been on my frame all week, plus quilted 2 more quilts!  And I got all 32 of the blocks put together for the graduation quilt.  I'm ready to set them together into a top.  Not bad for a day's work!

I bet the suspense has been killing you for 2 weeks now.  Who is the winner of the Freebie Friday Quilting Gift Certificate.  I do apologize for holding out on you last week.  As I mentioned, the hotel internet was terrible and kept timing out so posting anything was next to impossible.  And then I forgot!  So, because I made all of you wait to long, I'm giving a gift certificate to each person that posted a comment.  Joy Ivy, Gwen, Edie Joyce, and Julie you are all winners.  Send me your mailing address and I'll send you your gift certificate.  (Actually I have every one's address except Edie Joyce's.)  I can't wait to see the quilt you send me to quilt for you.  Now I bet all of you wished that you had left me a comment also.  You never know what surprises I have in store.

This week's FREEBIE FRIDAY give away is this ruler.   It is really a neat ruler and their website does a much better job of telling you all about it than I can.  I'm a sucker for rulers and other gadgets the seem to make quilting life easier.  Some are good and I use a lot and some I've wasted my money on because I either didn't use it at all or I'm not smart enough to use it or it just plain didn't work.  Either way, I own quite a few gadgets.  Leave me a comment before next Thursday evening and tell me if you're a gadget person or not.  I'll draw a random number next Friday and announce the winner.

What are you working on this week.  I'm still making components for the Graduation quilt I cut out a few weeks ago.  May will be here before I know it!  All the components are made and are ready to piece together to make this block.  There are just 31 of them left to go.  Actually the pattern calls for 25 but you know me, I had to make it a bed size quilt to I make it another row longer so it would be twin size.   I may have to make some substitutions to the sawtooth border as this was a kit and I'm not sure I have enough fabric to make it a sawtooth border.  Sure hope so, although it would go a lot faster if they were plain.

I hope the rest of you are doing better about finishing your UFO's than I am.  My quilting business has picked up a bit so I have less time to work on UFO's.  Plus I have had a very special request to finish a quilt for a certain little girl and that trumps UFO's any day.  Good news is that I finished Raleigh's quilt but bad news is I have a graduation quilt and a retirement quilt plus the Brownwood Quilt Show coming up in April and May so there is no rest for the weary, or is that wicked?

February's UFO that I was suppose to work on was my oldest UFO, a double wedding ring that started out as a queen size quilt and then turned to a wall hanging, and is now in the trash.  I just can't bring myself to finish it.  I cut it out in 1994, long before I knew anything about templates or paper piecing, so you can imagine what a nightmare it was.

Let's just move forward from here and concentrate on March's UFO project.  The number to work on for March is :

which is my Stars and Stripes Sampler.  I double I will finish it but I do hope to work on a few more blocks.  There is lots of applique in this quilt.
How did you do this month?  Did you finish your UFO or at least work on it?  Leave me a comment and let me know.

Remember a few weeks ago I posted about the FFA Donation Quilt but forgot to take any pictures before it went up for bid.  Well, my boss brought the quilt back in for me to take the pictures so here they are.

I'm finally back!  I really thought I would be able to post while at the Houston Livestock Show this past week but internet at our hotel was terrible.  I could get on the internet but I couldn't move around once I was on without it timing out.  So loading pictures or anything else was out of the question even if I could get to my blog site.  I do apologize but there really wasn't anything I could do about it.  It was a fun but hectic week.

Needless to say, I didn't use anything from my stash this week, but I did add 5 yards of cival war fabric for my stash for my Little Jo's Club that I belong to.  It was a really good price and I just couldn't pass it up.  If fabric is less than $5 a yard and it isn't an ugly betty fabric, I'm adding it to my stash.  At $5 a yard, that's less than half price and who cares if it's not the latest and greatest.  By the time I get around to using it, it won't be the latest and greatest anyway.  It will just be less expensive than the current price.

Hey, it's Freebie Friday and I'm actually posting this on Friday.  Last week's winner was comment #4.  My random number generator was week was my sweet little Payton.  She picked the winning number.  Julie wins the goodies from American Patchwork & Quilting.  Julie, send me an email with your address so that I can send them to you.

This week's prize is a $25 gift certificate from the Quilting Queen, good toward longarm quilting.  Leave me a comment and let me know what you would have me quilt for you if you won.
