One of Texas' best kept secrets is the Wimberly Quilt Ranch near Wimberly Texas.  It is amazing!  A quilter couldn't ask for anything nicer.  They have all the bases covered and more.  My quilting group, Loose Threads, (which I didn't know until this weekend had a name) booked the retreat center this past weekend.  We told each other we weren't going to tell anyone about it because we didn't want them to be booked up but I couldn't resist.  I have to tell you about it.  We had the best time and we booked it again for July.  I don't know which was better; the drive to the retreat with the stops for homemade pie at the Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls and the awesome quilt shop in Dripping Spring called Valli & Kim's, or the part of a day spent "in town", or the actual retreat.

I also couldn't resist taking a picture of one of the quilts hanging on the wall in the front entryway and the barn quilts painted on the barn out back.

You know I'm a sucker for a Texas Quilt.  I had never seen this one before.  The designer is Susa Glenn and they are machine embroidered.  Guess I won't be making this one.  I don't have an embroidery machine :(

The barn quilts

My favorite star pattern.  What a fabulous paint job someone did with all the shading!

Here are some photos from Valli and Kim's.  The shop was so much fun and the staff just bubbled with friendly-ness and  enthusiasm.
How cool is this light fixture!

And a quilt sample/free pattern from
The statewide Texas shop hop 2011 quilt

Who would have thought to drape this yo-yo quilt over an umbrella frame?

Or paint an old iron chair black and add a bright throw pillow?

Lots of quilt samples hanging from the rafters

And another quilt sample

And yet another sample.  I just love the birds in the panels.

Believe it or not, I actually got two quilts pieced at the retreat and another almost done.  Unfortunately, neither were a UFO!  I'll show you my results in the next post.
