Photos of the Memory Quilt

I promised photos of the memory quilt I'm working on. I now have 10 of the 12 block done. YEAH!!! Now waiting on a couple of things from the customer.

I think my ufo's are mulitplying in the closet! I have finished several lately but I still have too many to mention to finish. I vowed to have the Christmas sampler shop hop quilt done before this Christmas and the next shop hop. Well that shop hop is coming up in September and you guessed it, I'm not done! I have been working on it though. Now have all the blocks completed, need to sash, add borders, and quilt, bind, and label! No step for a stepper... right?

Speaking of a shop hop, The Fall Frolic Shop Hop is September 9th, 10th, and 11th. Check it out at their website http://www.fallfrolicshophop.net/.

Memory quilt

I have been commissioned to make a "memory quilt" for a customer who's mother passed away a couple of years ago. She has brought me several pieces of her mother's clothing and I'm cutting out blocks from the clothing fabric. The challenging part is not the design but working with the fabrics. The closest thing to 100% cotton quilt fabric is the denim from one of the dresses. Everything else is silk, satin, lace, sweaters, knits, you name it but no cotton! I'm backing everything with a tricot iron-on interfacing to give the fabrics some stability. I have a feeling the tricky-est part is yet to come. I don't have it together and in my quilting frame to machine quilt yet. The worst part is that I have fussy cut several blocks that have applique with beading and rhinestone studs so there will be no computerized quilting. I'll have to quilt it the old fashioned way and hand guide my machine.... YUCK!!! Oh well, I think my customer will be extremely pleased with the end result.... I hope! I'll post pictures of some of the blocks when I get a few more done.

Making Progress on William's Quilt

His quilt is coming along. I wish he would of finished it today but that didn't happen. I want you to comment on what you think about it and if you want a pattern.

Meanwhile I am finishing up one of my many UFOs. It is a mystery block exchange. Each member started with a ten inch block of their choice, fabric of their choice, and theme of their choice. The block was then passed on to the next participating member who added their block. My theme was Americana primitive cream, red, and blue ( Surprise, Surprise for those of you that know me). I've set the blocks together and added a piano key border and now working on the final border which is a checker board border.
I am also helping my son, William, with his quilt that he has designed himself. It is a nine patch quilt offset with alternating hourglass blocks and rectangles.
You will here more about William's design later on.

Hello, Quilters and Sewers. Hope you having a good day? Bad news is that I'm having a horrible day. While I was quilting a message popped up on my screen saying, "Needle not responding to needle move command. Unresponsive needle."
After numerous phone calls to technical support I find out that the motor drive has gone out on my
Gammill Statler Stitcher
and
I have three options, Option #1 Buy a brand new motor drive for a low, low price of 800 bucks,
Option #2 Purchase a refurbished motor drive for a mere $450, or Option #3 Send my broken
motor drive in to
possibly be fixed for a minimum of a a hundred dollars and a repair time of three to four weeks
with no guarantee that it can even be fixed.
So I have decided to buy a brand new part and I wont be able to Quilt for a week. Hopefully I can install the new part and it will work again!
